KIVETON'S MotoGP star James Toseland is tuning up for a return to one of his favourite haunts this weekend.
The Tech3 Yamaha rider enjoyed his last visit to California when he tussled for a podium place in a World Superbike Championship stage.
This weekend the Laguna Seca course will play host to the Red Bull US Grand Prix, the 11th and final MotoGP stage
before the traditional summer break.

Toseland will be performing on and off the track at the weekend.
When the 27-year-old is not on his bike he will be on the piano, providing musical entertainment with his band Crash in a light-hearted precursor to the serious business of the weekend's racing.

Despite a trio of tough previous races, Toseland is looking to put last weekend's 11th place in Germany behind him.
He said: "I'm really looking forward to racing at Laguna because it is one of my favourite tracks."
"I last raced there in 2004 and had a great scrap with Chris Vermeulen. It will be very interesting on a MotoGP bike and I aim to enjoy it."
"It should be a great weekend with Yamaha also planning some special events."

Toseland was unable to crack the top 10 at a rain-soaked Sachenring, although he made a great start and believes he will learn from the experience.
"Despite the result there were plenty of positives to take out of the German weekend but certainly not the weather and surely we are going to see some sunshine in California."

"That was my first wet MotoGP race and I've got to admit that while I feel I've learned a lot, it was a difficult afternoon."
"I got an unbelievable start and at the first corner I was fifth and nearly took fourth. I thought I was in business but pretty much straightaway I knew it was going to be difficult to try and go away with the leading group. I had a couple of moments on the opening lap and I started losing places quite quickly."

The wet track gave Toseland reason for caution. He explained: "I didn't want to push too hard because I'd seen Jorge Lorenzo crash in front of me, so I knew I wasn't the only one struggling for rear grip."
"I think that, coupled with a lack of experience of riding this bike in the rain, made it tough. I kind of just got stuck at the pace I was running and couldn't really go any faster."

"I'm not going to blame anybody because I'm having a bit of a bad period but a positive from the weekend is I feel we have taken some big strides with the set-up of the bike."
"I was only half a second off the front row and I was fourth in the warm-up, so it has not been a bad weekend."

The rider is in determined mood ahead of the Red Bull US Grand Prix and believes his previous experience of the Laguna Seca track will stand him in good stead.
He said: "We have eliminated a lot of problems and the team has done a great job, so I am looking forward to getting back closer to where I know I am capable of being and the team is capable of being at Laguna Seca."

"It is a track I know well, and I go there in a positive frame of mind as always, despite having this tough run."
Toseland lies ninth on the MotoGP leaderboard in his debut season on the Tech3 Yamaha YZR-M1 bike, ahead of Shinya Nakano by a single point.
