Dinnington began their new season with a comfortable victory over Wath in this friendly fixture.

After brushing aside the challenge of a Selby XV the previous week in a warm-up game, Dinnington were glad of a more realistic test not only of their
rugby skills but also their patience.

Wath were very good at slowing down Dinnington's recycling of the ball which meant the home side could not play the fast attacking game that they prefer.

In defence, they were solid and Wath were kept well away from threatening the home line.

Dinnington managed to claim one converted try in the first half, David Longstaffe running in behind the posts and Darren Cannadine converting, but in the second half their persistence brought just reward.

Good support play in all areas allowed them to keep the ball moving which opened up gaps in the visitors defence.

John Stimpson, Dean Lax, Cannadine and Ian Spink all scored tries with Cannadine and Lax adding conversions.

Tomorrow, Dinnington begin their league campaign at Huddersfield YM who have been somewhat of a bogey side in the past.

Dinnington 2nd XV 3
Mosbrough 1st XV 39

DESPITE a promising start to the game for Dinnington, an error allowed Mosborough to take the lead after 10 minutes.

Dinnington failed to deal with a loose ball near their own line and conceded again 10 minutes before half-time.

A penalty from Mick Yeend put them on the scoreboard but Mosborough responded in kind almost immediately and the visitors took a 17-3 lead.

In the second half, Dinnington spent most of their time repelling Mosborough attacks and it was no surprise that the visitors got on top.

Three tries in the last 10 minutes gave Mosborough a comfortable victory.

Wortley 5
Dinnington 3rd XV 19

DINNINGTON coped better with the conditions to start their season with a victory.

Their forwards dominated from the start and Richard White gave them the lead with a try in the corner.

Chances were hard to come by on a waterlogged pitch, and it was somewhat disappointing when an error allowed Wortley to level the scores just before half-time.

In the second half Dinnington regained control and sealed victory with two tries from Lee Thompson, crashing over from close range on both occasions, both converted by John Somerville.
