AFTER long-campaigning for safer roads in the village, the trio of Rotherham councillors representing Thurcroft this week welcomed proposed improvements to Morthen Road.
The route, which heads north towards Wickersley, will see an extended 30mph zone and mini-roundabouts will be used to slow down motorists.
"We've been working with residents in different parts of the village for some years now to get action on speeding vehicles in Thurcroft," said Coun Jeb Nightingale.
"So we're very pleased that no objections have come forward to the new designs and limits on Morthen Road."
"It's obvious that there's a lot of support for what the council has put forward to meet local concerns. We're all looking forward to seeing the detailed drawings."
Welcoming the news, Coun John Swift said he hoped work on the designs would now make good progress.
"The outline proposals for the Morthen Road scheme are being passed onto Rotherham Council's Highway Design Section, who will provide the detailed design and specification for the scheme."
"If the winter weather isn't too bad, contractors aim to have works completed on site by March or April 2009."
Coun Georgina Boyes added: "The 30 mph speed limit section of Morthern Road is going to be extended. It's part of an on-going campaign that we've undertaken with the community to make it safer to use the very busy roads through the village."
The three councillors have previously chamioned improved safety measures on Woodhouse Green and Green Arbour Road, following incidents and accidents caused by road users travelling at high speeds.
